對於好奇某位男生是否為Gay的可能性，除了言行舉止之外，語言的表達也會透露出來，舉例說某些圈內人才知道的專業術語，例如攻受、直男、BL(Boy Love)漫畫、1號0號、T婆、同學、Member(香港用語)等等。或者提出特殊同志會去的夜店或酒吧名稱，突然說出後要立刻觀察並刺探對方的反應。

更可以從他喜歡的偶像來猜測，由於同志的情感大多細膩 (姑且不論他的喜好偏一號、零號或不分)，大多數的同志喜歡女歌手居多，並且可以從國內外都可以一窺究竟。舉例來說，國外女歌手可能就是Madonna、Kylie Minoque、Mariah Carey、Ariana Grande等等，而台灣女歌手就可能為張惠妹、蕭亞軒、蔡依林這類的歌手。不是說喜歡這類歌手的男生都是Gay，只是這些歌手的音樂tone調就很符合同志市場的口味，也或者這些女歌手大方挺同志有關。若有機會想要測試一下你懷疑可能是同志的朋友，建議做些功課，瞭解他們的術語、喜好，在談笑風生中可以適時地加諸一些圈內用語，有可能會多出同學朋友唷！
