South Korea, A Relatively Conservative Country in Asia

In socially conservative South Korea, gay people’s life is much harder than that in Taiwan. They are prone to stigmatization in the society. Their law and policy also cannot protect gay people’s human rights. Gay people are like an invisible group in their society.

A video of two gay soldiers having sex was uploaded online, which shocked the whole military in the country. The way the military went about the investigation was extremely vicious. They used gay social networking apps in an attempt to bait gay soldiers in the military. They cited military laws, claiming that soldiers engaged in homosexual acts can be sentenced to imprisonment up to two years. They stressed that their investigation was appropriate and lawful.

Chechnya: There are no gay people in Chechnya.

It was reported that homosexuals were treated inhumanely in Chechnya. A reporter from The Guardian recently interviewed two victimized gay men who managed to escape from Chechnya, Adam and Akmed. His report revealed Chechnya’s inhumane treatments towards homosexual, treatments such as electrocution, group beating, and execution, indirectly proving the rumor of the government arresting homosexuals. The spokesman of the government claimed that the news were absolute lies.
