In the day of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOT) on May 17th, a special exhibition titled See Through will be held in Taiwan’s Huashan Creative Parks. In Hong Kong, many LGBT organizations also held a IDAHOT related event in the Causeway Bay area. Kenn, the Creative Director of PrideLab.HK, a pro-LGBT group, revealed that she discovered her attraction to females in middle school. She was unsure how to open up to her parents. Her father ended up asking about her sexual orientation and was supportive and accepting in the end. She said she was fortunate, compared to many others.

Shiu Ka-chun, a member of the legislative Social Welfare constituency, took part in the event. He pointed out that necessary as it is to legislate against discrimination on the ground of sexual orientation, education is still needed. Shiu revealed that Panel on Constitutional Affairs from the Legislative Council will carry out a thorough evaluation. He thinks that the current chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission, Chan Cheung-ming, should be accepting and inclusive, but instead, he has had some inappropriate comments, such as the one he made on Women’s Day this year. His discriminatory remarks targeted at women made his attitude towards the even more sensitive LGBT issues even more predictable.
